So the new season of bicycle tours and rental in Riga is almost upon us. Even if spring has not yet emerged, new and interesting developments are happening in Old Riga. This year Riga Bike Tours is changing in a big way!
Due to the colder rainier weather, the beginning of the low tourism season and the shorter, darker days of Latvian autumn, Riga Bike Tours’ daily bicycle tours have finished for 2012.
Riga on a beautiful autumn morning
But we’re still running tours until the snow comes, or the streets get too icy. If you’d like to join us on a bike tour through unseen, odd and alternative Riga, just contact us on email@example.com and we’ll be happy to share our amazing city with you during the beautiful red-yellow-orange autumn season. A short guide of how to find us!
- Go to the Old Town of Riga
- Find the Town Hall Square
- Locate the Roland statue – that is the dude with a sword in his hands – standing in the middle between the Town Hall and Blackheads Guild
- Meet one of our guides – Marcus, Artis or sometimes James too.
- We typically wear white t-shirt that say Riga Bike Tours and we have a Gazelle brand Dutch bike with us that also has our logo on it – see the pictures below.
- For Daily Bike Tours we typically stand there from about 15 minutes to 12AM and 3PM to about 10 minutes past.

As the new season of Year 2012 Summer is rolling on, we are offering new bike tours in Riga.
Evening in Riga Central District
Riga Old Town Bike Tour is for the ones who enjoy cycling and want to see the oldest historical part of Riga. For architecture enthusiasts we offer Soviet Riga Bike Tour – showing socialist architecture from different periods of Soviet Union, and Art Nouveau Bike Tour representing the magnificent early 20th century period of Russian Empire. We recommend trying our Beach Cruise Tour to Vecāķi village to see different outskirts of Riga and have a relaxed afternoon on the wild – less touristy beach of Mangaļsala.
1st May Bike Parade
Also we remind that our Daily Bike Tours as always will start at 12AM and 3PM from Rātslaukums(Town Hall Square) – opposite the Black Heads House. We are using proper Dutch city bikes of Gazelle brand, offering great comfort for relaxed city sightseeing as well as for suburb and countryside exploration.
This year we are set to see more bicycle rentals being used by tourists in Riga, so what to look out for and how much should you be paying for bike rental?
We mainly use our bikes for specially designed bicycle tours and routes but when we are asked to help people out with bicycle rental, we will try our best to manage with our bikes or either send them to our friends at the Kaleju iela bike store – who this year are offering city rental prices as competitive as the Baltic Bike system. From 6 – 7 lvl a Day you can hire a bike!
We offer nice dutch city bikes, our friends down at the Kaleju iela bike store, offer a range of mountain bikes and Baltic bike are offering pick up and drop off bikes which are reasonable for the ease of use and comfort. The only problem with the pick up and drop off bikes if you burst a tyre, you do not have a shop to return it too for repairs! Just a call out number – may not be so good if you are in the middle of a forest!
Just get in touch with us about bicycle rental in Riga – we will try our best to supply you with one of our bikes or one of our bicycle friends in Riga’s bicycles. Happy riding and enjoy the summer!

So its done – we closed the Daily Riga Bike Tour season of 2011 – do not worry – we will be back next Spring 2012.
You can still contact us any time and we may be able to provide a custom bike tour for You.
On other side – you can read an article about recent elections in Latvia there. Lets see how the next new powers that be run things.
So bike tours season is coming to the end slowly, but we are still running bike tours until the end of September, if You want to join our city bike tours later in autumn, then feel free to contact us.
If You want to get out of the usual hostel crowd or the pub scene of the Riga Old Town then we can list here some stuff to see in Riga this autumn.
- Arsenals cinema festival – great art-house movies from all over the world.
- Homo Novus – international festival of contemporary theatre
- Survival Kit – contemporary art festival – exhibitions, events, lectures, discussions, encounters and impetus for reflections.
- Baltā Nakts (White Nights) – White Night forum is organized by Riga City Council Department of Culture in cooperation with the active Latvian cultural organizations, involving a number of Latvian and foreign artists. The city’s cafes, galleries, bookstores, clubs and other establishments take an active part in the forum.
So its quite saturated with festivals and activities in the city, but if you want to escape all that jazz its a good idea to join our Bike Tour to Jurmala – on warm September days the beach is nice and water can still be quite warm.
