This year we are set to see more bicycle rentals being used by tourists in Riga, so what to look out for and how much should you be paying for bike rental?

We mainly use our bikes for specially designed bicycle tours and routes but when we are asked to help people out with bicycle rental, we will try our best to manage with our bikes or either send them to our friends at the Kaleju iela bike store – who this year are offering city rental prices as competitive as the Baltic Bike system. From 6 – 7 lvl a Day you can hire a bike!

We offer nice dutch city bikes, our friends down at the Kaleju iela bike store, offer a range of mountain bikes and Baltic bike are offering pick up and drop off bikes which are reasonable for the ease of use and comfort. The only problem with the pick up and drop off bikes if you burst a tyre, you do not have a shop to return it too for repairs! Just a call out number – may not be so good if you are in the middle of a forest!

Free Bike Tours on 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May 2012

It’s Bike Week in Riga, and to celebrate Riga Bicycle Tours wants to show you the city for free!

On Tuesday May 1st, (12.00 is now FULLY BOOKED!) meet us for the official “Riga Bike Parade”. We’ll be riding in the parade from the Freedom Monument to Mežaparks and back. It’s a great way to see the city while promoting the bicycle culture in Riga.

Then, on Wednesday May 2nd 12.00 and 15.00 and Thursday May 3rd 12.00 and 15.00, we’ll be offering our Regular daily tours for free. Absolutely free! Bike, guide and helmet included. What better way to spend your time in Riga than joining again free bike tour?

Be quick, maximum 8 places available for each tour. Below is a map of where to meet!

So its done – we closed the Daily Riga Bike Tour season of 2011 – do not worry – we will be back next Spring 2012.

You can still contact us any time and we may be able to provide a custom bike tour for You.

Things to do in Riga – Autumn 2011

So bike tours season is coming to the end slowly, but we are still running bike tours until the end of September, if You want to join our city bike tours later in autumn, then feel free to contact us.

If You want to get out of the usual hostel crowd or the pub scene of the Riga Old Town then we can list here some stuff to see in Riga this autumn.

Arsenals cinema festival – great art-house movies from all over the world.
Homo Novus – international festival of contemporary theatre
Survival Kit – contemporary art festival – exhibitions, events, lectures, discussions, encounters and impetus for reflections.
Baltā Nakts (White Nights) – White Night forum is organized by Riga City Council Department of Culture in cooperation with the active Latvian cultural organizations, involving a number of Latvian and foreign artists. The city’s cafes, galleries, bookstores, clubs and other establishments take an active part in the forum.

So its quite saturated with festivals and activities in the city, but if you want to escape all that jazz its a good idea to join our Bike Tour to Jurmala – on warm September days the beach is nice and water can still be quite warm.

Andrejsala electrical station

Some days ago we were able to get into the old Andrejsala electrical station – the station was used to provide electricity for much of the Riga Old Town and the harbor area – they say that the station was operating up till 1994. A student from the Latvian Academy of Arts had installed an acoustic performance there for his degree – normally the place is closed to general public. Some sources say that the building will be transformed into an art museum or exhibition hall.
