This is a bike tour for those who like exploring the lesser known regions of a city. Cross to the left bank of the Daugava river and discover a part of Riga very different from the touristy Old Town.
The Pardaugava district is often the forgotten suburb, cut off from Riga’s centre by the Daugava River, but it is still an interesting and vibrant area. The pace of life is slower here, you can imagine yourself in a rural Latvian town, rather than 5 minutes from Riga’s centre.
Along the way we’ll show you the old fishermen’s and workers’ districts, with their decaying wooden architecture, and stop by some of the regions Art Nouveau, to show that Pardaugava can match it with the rest of Riga for architectural beauty.
Ride down the most expensive, and possibly bumpiest, street in the city to see how a rotting wooden house or abandoned factory can be converted into a million dollar residence. We’ll also stop by one of the city’s newest event spaces, the Kalnciema Quarter, and if we’re lucky, catch one of their open air farmer’s markets or concerts.
Then it’s on to visit the Agenskalns market and soviet Victory Monument, before heading back across the river. You’ll be left amazed at just how much undiscovered beauty lies just a little bit “pardaugava”, on the Left Bank of the Daugava.
