Seen all of the famous sites of Riga? Want to get off the beaten track and discover the city beyond the touristy sights? Do You like Cycling as well? Then join our Alternative Riga Bike Tour and see another side of the city
Our Riga Alternative Cycling Tour will take you out of the Old Town to discover some unique parts of the city. Starting by cycling along the banks of the Daugava river, once the life-blood of Riga’s economy, we then enter the Moscow district. Famous for it’s rough appearance, historic wooden houses and cobbled streets, and for serving as the Jewish Ghetto during WWII; this suburb has been forgotten by tourists and locals alike, preserving its unique appearance and character.
We then enter the Grizinkalns district, formerly full of factories and workers accommodation, and the starting point for the 1905 uprising in Riga. Now it is gradually experiencing a cultural revival, as new life is being breathed into the area by students and young professionals. Finally we visit the Great Cemetery, the decaying legacy of the mainly Baltic German elite that ruled the city for almost 700 years.
This is an alternative sightseeing experience. We do not just give dates and names about the sites, we also like to tell stories, city legends and popular urban myths, as well as sharing our own opinions about the city. Enjoy stories from Russian Empire, the 1st and 2nd independence Latvia and the Soviet era and get an understanding of the reality, away from the touristy Old City.
